Update to Holy Electric Bill Batman!
Well, I am so glad I asked all of you about your electric bills! See original post here.
As I’m sure you have guessed, YES, our 35 year old furnace thinks this winter sounds like the perfect time to kick off. waaaaaah. This has probably been going on for several years now and because it was so gradual, it was easy to blame the high bills on something else (weather, older than dirt freezer we held onto forever, etc.) but now we honestly have NO reason to have a bill that high. I’m so glad I asked what everyone else has been paying because I could have easily continued to convince myself that these were normal prices.
So we’ve had one person out to look at it, we are going to get a second quote tomorrow.. bla bla bla.
As we were pondering how we are going to pay for this little hiccup in our financial life… providence happened yet again. Friday the same day I start setting up appointments with furnace companies, we find out that we are going to be getting a nice little chunk of change that we weren’t planning on. Probably enough to pay for ooh say, a furnace….
So my point with this little story is that in all of our married life, we have always tried to be smart with our money that doesn’t mean we always were, but we tried. We have always given money to charity and we have always put money away in savings. About 6 years ago or so, when money was so tight, I had trouble breathing, I finally learned to give it up. By give it up, I mean, Give it up to God.
I can remember multiple times when we would be staring at a bill that wasn’t in our normal budgeted amounts and of course money was so tight we couldn’t imagine how we would pay for it. I finally learned to offer it up, and amazingly something would happen and the money would come for us to be able to pay for it. (one year it was in the form of an overage in our mortgage escrow account. We received a check for several hundred dollars right at the exact moment we needed it, of course at this point I can’t remember what in the world we needed it for, but I certainly remember how relieved I was when it got there)
Thankfully now that I am back to work, there aren’t any more of those panic moments, but the lesson has stuck with me. HAVE FAITH. OUR NEEDS WILL BE MET. Give in faith, and it will be returned to you.
The only funny/frustrating/sad thing about all this furnace business is that we will YET AGAIN not be able to replace our driveway this year. And for those of you who know us and have been to our house, you can certainly understand how ironic and crazy that is!!
Does anyone else have aВ story about how Providence saved the day for you?
